Cecil Norman Cate, 93, of Greenville, Missouri, passed away June 6, 2021 at home.
Mr. Cate was born October 4, 1927 in Hickoria, Arkansas. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a post WWII veteran. He was retired from ABF where he was a teamster dock worker. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, Cardinals baseball, gardening, hunting, attending church, and spending time with his family. He served as deacon at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where he was a member.
On December 22, 1951, he married Blanche Nadine Stanley. They were married 66 years prior to her death on January 18, 2018.
Survivors include his children, Ernie Cate and wife, Becky of Puxico, Missouri, Nancy and husband, Lenny McCanless of Troy, Illinois, Tracey Cate and fiancé, Perry Nieft of Georgetown, Texas, Kim and husband, Alan Bryant of Punta Gorda, Florida, Christopher Cate and wife, Connie Sue of Greenville; sisters, Pauline (Milburn) Pierce of Corning, Arkansas, Euvilla Bland of Paragould, Arkansas and Carolyn Matheny of Rector, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, B.F. and Ona (Woods) Cate; brothers, Arvil, Earl and Leon Cate; sisters, Imogene Milburn-Pierce, Margaret Cate, Wanda Crossfield and Linda Welty; granddaughter, Jennifer Meade and daughter-in-law, Brenda (Grotsky) Cate.
Visitation will be Saturday June 12 from noon to 1 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Ernie Cate officiating. Burial will be at Post Oak Cemetery near McDougal.
