The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center received a large donation from the Family Counseling Center. The donation was designated for special “challenge coins” which were presented to each VA Police Officer in honor of National Police Week....

Challenge coins have military and law enforcement connections and may date back to Roman times. They have historically been presented in recognition of special achievements, or to enhance morale. The coins presented to VA police have a police badge on the front, and “We stand for the flag, we kneel for the fallen” on the back.

Family Counseling Center CEO and veteran, Randy Ray, added, “It was an honor for FCC Behavioral Health to be a part of this military tradition. I always look back at my military service as one of the highlights of my life. I still use those experiences to help guide me in the decisions I make today.”

VA Police Chief Mathew Mulholland expressed gratitude on behalf of all the officers.

“We were surprised and humbled when FCC stepped forward to purchase these challenge coins,” he said. “For me, it was a clear sign that our community supports us, during National Police Week, and every day.

“I know our officers appreciated the challenge coin presentation, as well as the backing the donation represents. They deserve to be recognized for all that they do to protect those who’ve served.”
