James and JoAnn Godwin of Poplar Bluff are celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary Saturday, May 22, 2021.
The Godwins are each 83 years old. They were married May 22, 1957, at the Church of Christ at Caraway by Bro. Vance Greenway of Paragould.
They have one son, Alan Godwin, who has two daughters: Katie Godwin and Kyla Nunn. Kyla and Rhett Nunn have a son, Kole, and a daughter, Harper. Katie Godwin has one son, Noah James Duckett with her fiancé, Jeremy Duckett, and one daughter, Mila Hendrickson.
The Godwins live in Poplar Bluff and continue to run the farm that has been in the family for three generations. It is known as Godwin Farms and, according to family members, plays a major part in the prestigious cattle business.
“Still to this day JoAnn and James start their day off working and working some more,” family members shared. “They still run the farm feeding cattle every day. They are two of the hardest working individuals that I know..”
The family said, “If someone was to ask them why they work so hard they would answer “that’s all we’ve ever known.”
If asked what they enjoy, they would say they “enjoy spending time with their family.”
At the time of their marriage, Mrs. Godwin was a graduate of Central High School in Caraway. She was employed at the Butler County Courthouse. Godwin was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School. They planned to make their home in Poplar Bluff, where he was engaged in farming.
