John Calvin Bowles, 88, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, completed his earthly journey Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. John was born April 15, 1933, to Henry Peter and Edna May (nee, Robinson) Bowles in Fisk, Missouri. ...

John Calvin Bowles, 88, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, completed his earthly journey Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

John was born April 15, 1933, to Henry Peter and Edna May (nee, Robinson) Bowles in Fisk, Missouri. He was a graduate of Fisk High School and was on scholarship to play basketball for Missouri Baptist Bobcats. After two years at Missouri Baptist John joined the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, where he earned the rank of Airman First Class. After his discharge from the military, John entered the workforce working at General Motors in Detroit. Over the years he worked for Pepsi Cola, Midwest Dairy as an electrician & Nuclear Electrical Inspector, for Farley Nuclear and NextEra Energy plants. He finished his career at Sunset Pools and Metal Craft. John was a Former Deacon at the First Assembly of God and was an ordained Deacon at the General Baptist Convention. He was a member of the Palace of Praise Church in Poplar Bluff. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His greatest passion next to his love for Jesus was spending time with his family.

On Feb 23, 1957, he married Ella Gould in Poplar Bluff. John and Ella recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Gould Bowles; two children, Henry ‘Hank’ Bowles and wife, Millie of Homestead, Florida and Debbra Ross and husband, Daniel of Largo, Florida; three grandsons, Andrew Ross of Largo, John Henry Bowles of Homestead and Nicholas Ross of Largo; John was preceded in death by his parents and many uncles and aunts.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 at Palace of Praise Church, 1400 Herschel Bess Blvd., in Poplar Bluff with Pastor Kent Miller officiating.
