Georgia ‘Granny’ Marie Benfield, 95, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021. She was born September 3, 1925 in Senath, Missouri to the late James Oscar and Jennie (Nuckles) Braden. She was member of South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church.
She married the love of her life, James Marvin Benfield, on November 14, 1944 in Piggott, Arkansas. ‘Granny’ was a long time fixture at Myrtle’s Place, where she enjoyed visiting with friends, family and baking pies. At home, her favorite past times were puttering around the yard, watching TV and embroidery.
Georgia is survived by five daughters, Joyce Danels of Kennett, Missouri, Doris Stillwell (Eric) of Fenton, Missouri, Jeanie Hood (Alan) of Wildwood, Missouri, Debbie Sliger and Pete Ingle (Robert) both of Poplar Bluff; eight grandchildren, Kim Danels Bulter, Jill Sloan, Darrick Duenwald, Deanna Hood, Brian Scott Hood, Leanna Alexander, Sarah Jennings and Jason Long; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; five brothers, Elvis Braden, Gerald Braden, Olin Braden, Nolen Braden and James Braden; two sisters, Wilma Bulter and Bonnie Hyde and two son-in-laws, Troy Danels and Tommy Sliger.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 19 in the Fitch-Hillis Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Services will be following at noon. Rev. Keith Luke and Rev. Ron Webb will be the speakers. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Senath Cemetery.
