As warmer weather approaches, many sportsmen maybe be looking for ways to get outdoors but beat the heat.

During this time of year, it can be very beneficial to try doing some fishing at night. Many species of fish have been known to become more active during the last few hours of daylight during warmer weather. This provides anglers with a great way to enjoy the cooler time of the day, as well as some great fishing.

Just like during the day, people enjoying the outdoors at night should always carry extra water and bug spray for mosquitoes, especially around areas with water.

The Missouri Department of Conservation owns several public areas that people can use to access waterways for fishing in Butler County. While using these areas, it is important to know the area regulations. One way to find these is to enter the area name into Google followed by the abbreviation “MO.” This will direct you to a website where a list of activities that can be done on that area will be displayed.

Be sure to keep in mind that if the activity is not listed under things to do, then it is prohibited on the area.

When looking at things to do, always remember that MDC public areas are closed from 10 p.m. – 4 a.m., unless being used for a resource related activity.
