Garland Max Waite, 93, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021. He was born July 24, 1927 in Newark, Missouri to the late Stephen McChristy Waite and Opal (Meyer) Waite. He was of the Methodist faith.
He served in the Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded several distinguishing medals. He later married the love of his life, Alma (Todd) Waite on March 5, 1954 in Shelbina, Missouri. They had just celebrated 67 years of marriage. He worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. Max’s favorite pastimes were visiting at the local coffee shop, playing cards, watching westerns and listening to country music from the Grand Ole Opry. He and his wife were longtime residents of Poplar Bluff.
Max is survived by his wife; three sons, Brian Waite, Scott Waite and Stephen Waite, all of Poplar Bluff; two daughters, Jeanie Schultz of Highland, Illinois and Suzy Lux of Poplar Bluff, as well as nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private graveside service will be was held Monday, April 26 in the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery. Elder Robert Duckett was the speaker.
