James Denton Hillis, 91, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021. He was born January 14, 1930 in Hilliard, Missouri to the late Jesse Franklin and Minnie Pauline (Helm-Duckett) Hillis. He was of the First Christian faith.
He was raised in Broseley, Missouri and graduated high school there. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in England. He married the love of his life May 28, 1954, Wanda ‘Tootie’ (Smith) Hillis. He worked as a lab tech in the Kneibert Clinic for over 30 years. He also retired from farming. He served as an elder and deacon for over 55 years at the First Christian Church. His true favorite activity was loving his children and grandchildren.
Jim is survived by one son, Mike Hillis of Blue Springs Missouri; two daughters, Sue Bartz (Roger) of Wildwood, Missouri and Kathy Rodriguez (Joe) of Chesterfield, Missouri and one sister, Mary Crabtree of Poplar Bluff and sister-in-law, Billie Hillis and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Joe Lee Hillis and one sister, May Hunter.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 21 in Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
