A routine traffic stop early Thursday morning resulted in the arrest of a Poplar Bluff man on suspicion of distribution of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Travis L. Holloway, 43, of the 400 block of Adams Street, was arrested near the intersection of Fifth and Park streets on suspicion of distribution of amphetamine, distribution of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of firearms, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting or interfering with arrest, failure to signal, driving while revoked or suspended and failure to carry financial responsibility.
The drug distribution charges are Class C felonies, while unlawful possession of a firearm is a Class D felony. Unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest are Class E felonies.
According to the report, Poplar Bluff Police Officer Cody Trout observed a black Chevrolet Suburban driven by Holloway traveling northbound on South Broadway (Ditch Road) at a high rate of speed at 2:12 a.m.. Trout pursued the Suburban and caught up with the vehicle near the intersection of Fifth and Park streets, also observing the vehicle failed to signal when making a left turn onto Park Street.
When Trout stopped the vehicle, he identified a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle, according to the report. Trout asked Holloway if there was a firearm in the vehicle, to which Holloway allegedly said there was a rifle inside belonging to another person. Holloway said he could not provide a driver’s license or proof of insurance, Trout reported.
When Trout asked Holloway to exit the vehicle, Trout alledgedly observed a glass meth pipe with residue fall to the ground from the area where Holloway was sitting in the vehicle. When Trout searched Holloway’s person, Trout also observed a clear plastic bag containing 51 grams of marijuana and $1,102 in currency in Holloway’s pockets, police say.
After Poplar Bluff police officers Zach Tubb and Dylan Janes arrived on the scene, Tubb reportedly spotted another bag of marijuana and a shotgun in plain view, leading to a search of the vehicle which alledgedly revealed two digital scales — one with white crystal residue on it — three 12-gauge shotgun rounds, three 32 auto rounds, a small baggie of marijuana, a 12-gauge shotgun, a revolver, a large quantity of clear plastic baggies and a clear plastic baggie containing a large amount of a crystal rock substance (28.6 gram bag weight), which tested positive for methamphetamine.
Holloway was booked at the Butler County jail.
