One man is dead following an incident Thursday afternoon at the Wappapello Lake spillway.
According to Wayne County Sheriff Dean Finch, Lucas Aaron Cope, 29, of Poplar Bluff was at the lake when he had a medical issue, resulting in him falling in the water.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said that authorities received a call at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday reporting the drowning. Cope’s body was later recovered.
The incident is under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Division and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
