The Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department continues to accept registrations for the spring Optimist Soccer League, but the deadline for those wishing to enroll their children is Friday.
“We’re in a supportive role, helping the Optimist Soccer League with the registrations, and we’ll take them through Friday,” said Park Department Director Lanny Corcimiglia.
A registration fee of $20 per player must be included with the filled-out form, which can be picked up at the park department office on Second Street.
“They can also register and pay on our website,” said Corcimiglia.
That website is www.pbparks.org.
Age divisions for spring OSL soccer will be K-1 boys, K-1 girls, grade 2-3 boys, grade 2-3 girls, grade 4-6 boys and grade 4-6 girls.
“We should have the teams assigned within two weeks. Teams should have a couple weeks of practices, and games should start in late March,” said Corcimiglia.
Games will be held at Whiteley Park, between Highway 142 and Cheshire Boulevard.
For those athletes without cleats, the Optimist Soccer League has a limited supply. Those needing them can call league commissioner Stacy Barker at 573-718-0959.
The Parks and Recreation Department also is taking registrations for its spring girls volleyball program, which is open to athletes in grades 3-6.
The registration deadline for the volleyball program, Corcimiglia said, is March 5.
That program also requires a $20 registration fee.
After the deadline, Corcimiglia said, it should take about two weeks to assign teams. Once that takes place, teams will have two weeks to practice before league games begin in early April.
Volleyball games are slated to be played inside the Black River Coliseum, Corcimiglia said.
