Cynthia ‘Cindy’ G. Evans, 66, of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, following a lengthy illness, and is now resting in peace.
Cindy was born Aug. 12, 1954, in Sikeston, Missouri to her parents “Gerry” Denton Smith and Guy E. Smith. She and her family moved to Poplar Bluff in 1958 where she remained throughout her life.
At the age of 15 she met the love of her life, Teddy K. Evans, whom she married three years later. Soon after marriage she began a career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, retiring after almost 30 years. She and Teddy were very involved in the First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Amy Smith (Bill); her son, Derek Evans (Chris); a brother, Edward Smith (Barrie); two sisters, Rita Lynn Howard, and Vicki Coppen (Gary); two grandsons, Wyatt Smith, and Tanner Smith (Taylor); a great-grandson Jaxon Smith and numerous dearly loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Brandon Spain will officiate. Burial will be at Black River Cemetery, in Butler County.
