QULIN, Mo. — Walter Chester Carter, 86, of Ellsinore, Missouri, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 in Hunter, Missouri.
Mr. Carter was born Sept. 20, 1934 in Arkansas, son of the late Albert Lee and Cora Lee Carter.
Walter worked in the timber business until his retirement. An avid collector of other people’s unwanted things, Walter loved visiting with people who stopped by his place in Ellsinore, Missouri on Highway 60. You didn’t have to buy anything, just talk a bit and he was happy.
He is survived by two sons: Joe Carter of Hunter, Missouri and James Carter of Qulin, Missouri; seven stepchildren: Patricia Hicks, Loretta Powell, Neva Cunningham, Raymond Williamson, Becky Jackson, Arlis Greathouse and Rodney Greathouse; one brother: Duke Carter of Oklahoma; two sisters: Rose Bunn of Hunter, and Martha Spurlock of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren and an honorary granddaughter: Joyce Bales and her son Malakai.
He was also preceded in death by two wives: Naomi Williams and Dorothy Ward; one daughter, one son, two stepdaughters, four great- grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Gerald Berger officiating. Pallbearers are Jared Poyner, Blake Dillow, Keith Woodham, Josh Woodham, Rodney Greathouse and Arlis Greathouse. Burial will be in the Qulin Cemetery at Qulin.
