A contest has already developed for Poplar Bluff School District for the April 6 election, and a former Poplar Bluff City Council member will seek a new seat, according to officials at the end of the first day of filing.
Filing opened Tuesday and will continue until Jan. 19.
Poplar Bluff City Council
Filing opened for the Poplar Bluff Ward 2 seat currently held by Ed DeGaris and the Ward 4 seat currently held by Shane Cornman.
DeGaris said last week he will not file for re-election. He has served Ward 2 since 2009.
Cornman filed Tuesday for re-election for the seat he has held for one term.
Former council member Jerrica Fox also filed for the Ward 2 seat. Fox previously served as an at-large council member, being appointed in August 2015 for a partial term and elected to the seat in April 2016.
Those interested in running can apply from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on weekdays at Poplar Bluff City Hall at 501 Vine St. Hours will be extended to 5 p.m. on Jan. 19.
Fisk City Council
There are three seats open for Fisk alderman positions open in this election cycle; two for Ward 1 and one from Ward 2.
Candidates can file from 8 a.m. until noon or 1-5 p.m. on weekdays at Qulin City Hall at 481 Second St.
City hall did not respond to requests for information as of Tuesday afternoon.
Qulin Alderman
As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, no one had applied to run for any of the three open Qulin alderman seats.
There are two for Ward 1 open and one from Ward 2.
Candidates can file from 8 a.m. until noon or 1-5 p.m. on weekdays at Qulin City Hall at 481 Second St.
Neelyville City Council
Neelyville residents will have one council seat and the mayor open for election.
It is a Ward 2 council seat.
A message left at city hall was not returned by press time Tuesday.
Candidates can file from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays at Neelyville City Hall at 150 Park St.
Poplar Bluff R-I
Three people have filed for the Poplar Bluff R-I school board.
There are two seats open, currently held by Tim Gaebler and Ken Davis.
Both incumbents filed Tuesday along with newcomer Kevin Ellis.
Those interested in filing for a seat need to go to Central Office, at 1110 N. Westwood Blvd. On the first and last days of filing, the office will have extended hours from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The office will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dec. 16-18, Jan. 4-8 and Jan. 11-15 for filing.
Candidates must wear face masks/coverings and observe district infection control rules at the time of filing.
Neelyville R-IV
Nobody filed Tuesday for the Neelyville R-IV school board.
Two seats, currently held by Gene Russom and Jim Hover, are up for election.
Those interested can file at the Central Office, at 289 Broadway St. in Neelyville.
On the first and last day of filing, the office will have extended hours from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Otherwise, the office will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays.
The office will be closed Dec. 21 through Jan. 1 for winter break.
Twin Rivers R-X
Two Twin Rivers R-X School Board seats are up for election.
The seats currently are held by Keith Parker and Donna Sue Ashcraft-Fincher and both incumbents filed Tuesday.
People interested can file at Central Office, at 9348 Highway 51 in Broseley, during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The office will be closed from Dec. 21 through Jan. 1 for winter break.
On the last day of filing, Jan. 19, the office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
