Hazel Mills, 97, of Poplar Bluff passed away Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 2020, at Mark Twain Caring Center.
Hazel, the daughter of Will and Mattie Singleton Glass, was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Birdeye, Arkansas. During her earlier years she worked as a part-time teacher for two years and later as an aide in the Chicago school districts for four years. She was a member of Bethany Church of God in Christ, where she enjoyed teaching children. Hazel loved teaching, traveling, reading biographies, fashion and jewelry and decorating the house. Her favorite food in the whole world was hamburgers and ice cream soda.
She was married to Barney Mills on July 27, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1981.
Survivors include her daughter, Julia Douglas Mills of Houston, Texas; one grandchild; and a host of other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the City Cemetery, with Pastor Gary McCain officiating.
