A local man was in critical condition in a Tennessee hospital Friday after he was shot in the face during an apparent argument.

At about 12:15 p.m., Butler County deputies were sent to a location in the 800 block of County Road 301 after Jessie Lacy “went to the door of his neighbor for help, saying he had been shot,” according to Chief Deputy Wes Popp.

When deputies arrived, Popp said, Lacy, 38, alleged Edward D. Rodgers, 48, had shot him during an argument.

Popp said Lacy, who had a gunshot wound to the face, had been shot once with a rifle.

The shooting, Popp said, occurred inside Lacy’s home, where Rodgers had been staying.

Both Lacy and his girlfriend identified Rodgers as the alleged shooter.

Lacy was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and air lifted to a Memphis hospital.

“He’s in critical condition right now in Memphis,” Popp said just before 7 p.m. Friday.

Rodgers, he said, was located a couple hours after the alleged shooting on Thomas Street and arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

“He was mobile” when officers made contact with him, Popp said.

Rodgers also was wanted on a federal warrant through the U.S. Marshal Service “for escape-walk away.”

Rodgers is being held in the Butler County jail pending the filing of formal charges.

Further details were not available by press time.
