Interested in learning to make pizza or if you are all a buzz about bees, the 4-H program sponsored by the Butler County Extension is offering classes to help pique youngsters’ interest.

Youth can learn how to make personal pizzas at 9 a.m. Saturday at Brick Oven Pizza in Poplar Bluff.

Space in the pizza class is limited to 10 because of COVID-19, said 4-H youth program associate Kim Allison.

While there are still some openings, Allison explained, it is first-come, first-served, and those making reservations need to call by 4 p.m. , Friday, Nov. 6.

Buzz on in for the Beekeeping SPIN Classes, which will be held at Butler County Extension, 614 Lindsay Ave., Suite 3. Again, space is limited to 10 youth per class.

The bee classes will be from:

• 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Indian Creek Bee Company.

Holly Yarbro, who owns Indian Creek Bee Co., will give hands-on training for the participants to make their own lip balm out of beeswax, Allison said

• 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, Humble B, owned by Jeremy Bradshaw, is going to have gift baskets made up of different things.

Bradshaw will discuss the importance of bees, Allison said. He also is sponsoring some 4-H youth by paying their dues.

• 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, a session named Pollinator Hotel will be taught by Juan Cabrera-Garcia, field specialist in horticulture. Cabrera-Garcia actually will help each student make a pollinator hotel. He will discuss how bees pollinate different fruits and vegetables and why bees are needed.

Anyone interested in learning to raise their own bees or to start their own bee farm will enjoy the classes, Allison said. This spring, students will visit bee farms and see how they work.

The pizza class and the beekeeping class will each cost $25, or $5 if you are an active 4-H member.

Enroll in either or both at the 4-H website, https://v2.4honline.com, or request a paper form.
