Murray Hammond, Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation horticulturist, successfully received his Aquatic Facility Operator Certification from the National Recreation & Park Association on October 7.

Hammond has been employed with Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation for three and one-half years. His primary responsibilities include the beautification of the parks, walking trails, Poplar Bluff Municipal Library, and downtown Poplar Bluff. He also provides educational opportunities and hands-on experience for youth and organizations.

The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date training on operations, mechanical systems, water chemistry, disinfection, safety and much more. AFO certification will help staff better understand the entire pool system and run all types of aquatic facilities safely, efficiently, and confidently.
