NEELYVILLE — After a week of students remaining home, they will be back in class at the Neelyville R-IV school district Monday.

Superintendent Debra Parish said board members discussed the issue via email over the week and decided Thursday night to resume in-person classes.

The board decided last week to move to at-home learning for a week based on a spike in COVID-19 cases among students.

According to data on the school’s website, 12 students were confirmed positive with the virus and 84 were quarantined as of Thursday.

Both numbers have been decreasing over the course of the week.

Parish said the district completed additional cleaning during the week and made plans for increased social distancing.

Additionally, she said, the district planned incentives to encourage more mask wearing while at school.

“Every email I have received today about it has been positive, and the teachers are excited about getting the kids back into class, and they just know it’s more effective for the students,” she said.
