Ruth Lillian Watkins, 90 years young, of Poplar Bluff passed away Sunday, Oct. 4,2020, in Doniphan.
She was born May 8, 1930, in Zalma, the daughter of George Washington Slaughter and Elizabeth Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Dugger of Zalma, Everett Dugger (Dina) of Rosenburg, Texas; one daughter, Kathy Barrett (Daniel) of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren, Jennifer, Charles, Sherrie, Chelsie, Dana, Matthew, Tina and Sara; and great-grandchildren, Loman, Ian, Adlyn, Jacob and Jullet,
Ruth married her best friend Donald Watkins.
She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was happiest when she was yard saleing, running her own flea market and playing bingo. She worked and retired at Florsheim shoe in Cape Girardeau.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Donald; her parents, George and Elizabeth Slaughter; four brothers, Verman, Pete, Jack and Loren; and one sister, Haley.
She has gone to heaven and will be an angel to many. She is no longer in pain and is walking on the streets of gold.
Funeral services will be at Fowler-Sullivan mortuary in Poplar Bluff with Rowdy Boyer officiating, visitation will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 8 for family, and 6-8 p.m. for the public. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m Friday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Berrong Cemetery in Zalma.
