The annual Fields of Faith event will take place Wednesday at Poplar Bluff High School.

Josh Mills, SEMO South Fellowship of Christian Athletes area representative, said Poplar Bluff is the only school hosting Fields of Faith this fall.

Sikeston is holding off until spring, he said, and Doniphan, which hosted for the first time last year, decided not to host one this fall.

“This year is a different scenario for sure, with the heightened precautions of COVID all over the area,” he said. “For us, we are taking the normal measures as most stores and restaurants do.”

This means spreading people out more, allowing them to wear masks if they want and “encouraging them to treat the event as they would going to church or school,” he continued.

Mills said they’re working to, hopefully, set up a livestream for those unable to attend.

“Naturally, we want everyone to be safe, and we think we can offer that environment, while still putting on our event,” Mills said. “As with anything, it’s a choice for folks to attend, and we hope they will and enjoy it as well.”

Members of the First Baptist Church worship team will lead the service. Cameron Kreager is bringing the message and several student athletes will share testimonies and scriptures.

Mills said the theme this year is 100%.

It’s based on Mark 12:30, which says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

“Our prayer is that those in attendance would hear a message of hope that only Jesus Christ offers in a relationship with Him, something to definitely cling to in this crazy 2020 season,” Mills said.

They’ll be selling theme T-shirts at the event this year for $10.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event starts at 7 p.m. at Mules Stadium. Mills said stadium seats will be available, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on.

“We’re extremely grateful for the staff at PBHS allowing us to use their facility year in and year out; they’re incredible to work with each year,” Mills said.
