County firefighters responded at 12:54 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to a fire involving a backhoe at 96 County Road 321.

According to the report, the John Deere backhoe was destroyed.

City firefighters responded at 5:24 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to a report of smoke in the 2633 Woodstone St. residence owned by Shahid Choudhary.

According to the report, Choudhary told firefighters the furnace began to smoke profusely after being turned on for the first time.

Firefighters inspected the location of the furnace and turned off all the labeled breakers to the heating/ventilation/air conditioning system.

Firefighters reportedly found melted wiring in the bottom of the furnace.

Firefighters used the department’s thermal-imaging camera to inspect the furnace and area around the unit to ensure there was no fire extension. Nothing was found.

Choudhary was told not to use the unit until it could be checked by a HVAC technician.

City firefighters responded at 4:41 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to a report of a vehicle fire at the intersection of South Broadway and Henry Street.

According to the report, firefighters contacted William Dobbs, 140 Dobbs Lane, who reported he pulled off after his 1987 Ford pickup began smoking.

Other motorists reportedly stopped and assisted in putting out the fire before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters used 10 gallons of water to finish cooling down the truck.
