A Poplar Bluff teenager was injured Monday afternoon when she was a struck by a vehicle in the 2000 block of Barron Road.

The 19-year-old, whose name is not being released at this time, was walking between 4:45 and 5 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle driven by “an older woman,” said Poplar Bluff Police Lt. Josh Stewart.

“She was walking along the edge of the road, north of Katy Lane, the curvy section” of Barron Road, Stewart explained. There are no shoulders along Barron Road for pedestrian traffic.

The driver, whose name also is not being released, “didn’t see her until it was too late,” Stewart said. “It was just a bad section of road to be walking.”

Stewart said the driver did not “appear under the influence, was not (driving) erratic or speeding or anything like that.”

After having identified the teen earlier Tuesday, Stewart said, officers are working on contacting her next of kin.

The teen is alive, but her condition is serious, Stewart said.
