The Margaret Harwell Art Museum is looking for local talent interested in participating in a nearly 70-year tradition.
The annual Poplar Bluff Artists’ Guild Regional Juried Art Exhibit will be held in November, according to Steve Whitworth, MHAM director.
Artist guild members and those living within a 100-mile radius of the Poplar Bluff may enter. Entries will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24, with an opening reception to be held from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 1.
More than $500 in cash prizes will be awarded, according to information provided by Whitworth.
Categories include: oil; watercolor; acrylic; pastels; mixed media; three-dimensional; fiber and graphic arts.
Cash prizes will be awarded in each category of: first place, $50; second place, $25; third place, $15; and honorable mention, ribbon.
A Best of Show Award will be made and include a prize of $200.
A People’s Choice award also will be named at the end of November, with a prize of $50.
Visitors to the art show will have until Nov. 29 to vote on the People’s Choice award, which will be named at 2:30 p.m. that day, according to Whitworth.
The juror for this show will be Jeanie Eddleman, founder and president of the Cat Ranch Art Guild. Eddleman is a member of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri and has a studio in Cape Girardeau, the Jeanie Eddleman Art Studio.
An entry fee of $25 is required when entries are accepted.
Each artist may submit three entries from the eight categories. Work must be original and completed in the past two years, according to contest rules. The work may not have been previously shown at the MHAM.
Pictures cannot be larger than 48 inches in any dimension.
Work should be framed and ready for hanging.
All pastels, watercolors and graphic arts must be under glass.
