BLOOMFIELD — Alice Cornelia “Connie” Shanks, age 94, of Bloomfield went home to be with her Lord Monday, Sept. 14, 2020.
Connie was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield, where she loved life and taking care of others through her cooking and caring ways. Her life was spent loving her family and her church family.
She married the love of her life, John Shanks Jr., on Dec. 22, 1945, in Blytheville, Arkansas.
She and John enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Her grandchildren affectionately were her life and family, and she always had the time for them.
Connie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Tony Burdine of Bloomfield; son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Shanks of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Anthony Shanks of Akron, Ohio; Beth Bradford of Flower Mound, Texas; Shelley Prevost of Chattanooga, Tennessee; T.J. Burdine of Franklin, Tennessee; John Jeffery Shanks of San Antonio; and Mary Jane Shanks of Seattle, Washington; and 13 great-grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, John Shanks; her parents, Mary and Cloud Fesmire; stepfather, James Ervin; sisters, Betty (Burl) McNair and Carolyn Price; and brother, Jim Ervin.
The Shanks family would like to thank the staff of Elare Caring Hospice of Dexter, Missouri; her doctor, Dr. Julia Pewit, and her nurse, Joseph, for all the loving care shown to their mother, and also to Watkins and Sons Funeral Service staff in Dexter for all of their loving kindness.
Graveside service will be held at noon Friday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with the Rev. John McCain of Bloomfield officiating.
