Two area men were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, on U.S. 61, one mile south of Matthews, in New Madrid County.

According to the report, Earl W. Bryant, 61, of East Prairie was operating a southbound 2009 GMC pickup, which was making a right turn and was struck in the rear by a 2000 Freightliner being driven by Dennis W. Thurman, 71, of Fisk.

Bryant suffered minor injuries, while his 57-year-old passenger, Michael D. Rushing of Dexter, suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

A 27-year-old Qulin woman was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 7:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, on Highway 53 in Qulin.

According to the report, Christine M. Busby was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound by, which was stopped in the road to make a turn and was struck in the rear by a 1997 International being driven by David A. Vance, 53, of Lilbourn.

Debris from the crash reportedly struck 2019 Chrysler Pacifica being driven southbound by Corey E. Vancil, 34, of Qulin.

Busby suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Lucas S. McCarthy, 28, of Pomona, Missouri, was arrested at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, in Oregon on a Carter County warrant. He was booked at the Carter County Sheriff’s Department.

Steven M. Kirkwood, 38, of Malden was arrested at 7:38 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, on a New Madrid County failure to appear warrant for possession of a controlled substance, a Probation & Parole warrant for parole violation on an original charge of counterfeiting, two Dunklin County warrants for murder and possession of a controlled substance and on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance (Hydrocodone). He was booked at the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department.
