Edna M. Magruder, 92, of Poplar Bluff, was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Being the independent woman that she was, she drove herself to the hospital after becoming ill at home.
Edna, the daughter of the late Ray and Ola Leach Morlen, was born July 28, 1928, in Ellsinore, Missouri. She was a former member of Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.
Edna was a longtime member of the Eastern Star in Naylor. She retired after working 30 years in a garment factory.
She loved being around people and fulfilled that desire by becoming a volunteer at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, the Butler County Courthouse and local hospitals. Edna loved staying active, whether it be working in her yard picking up sticks, gardening or just being out and about.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, getting together with her girlfriends, eating out and shopping. She was a loving and compassionate lady and was always looking for ways to help other people. She will be missed!
Edna married Don “D.F.” Magruder on July 28, 1978, in Rombauer. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2010.
Survivors include her children, Will (Susan) McClure of Washington State, Dana (Kimber) Magruder of Fisk, and David (Samantha) Magruder, Cynthia (Jim) Dollins and Linda Magruder, all of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Josh Morlen of St. Louis; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded by a son, Paul McClure, a great-granddaughter, Jessica Dollins, three brothers, Carl Morlen, Alvin Morlen and Albert Morlen, a sister, Jewell Longbottom and four sisters-in-law, Geraldine Creach, Sarah Janes, Eudora Lockwood and Wanda Morgan.
An Eastern Star Service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with visitation following to noon. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Carson Hill Cemetery near Mill Spring, Missouri, with Rev. Brandon Spain officiating.
