PB Amtrak station waiting room temporarily closed

The Poplar Bluff Amtrak station waiting room is temporarily closed effective immediately, until further notice. Trains will continue to stop at the station and passengers will have access to platforms.

Jim Chrisman of the Poplar Bluff Historic Deport Restoration Corporation explained because of the coronavirus Amtrak is requiring masks be worn in all the waiting rooms.

Locally, they have not been able to enforce the policy, Chrisman said.

Passengers will not have access to the inside of the station or restrooms during this time. When trains arrive, passengers may proceed to the platform to board.

Rather than waiting for trains outdoors, passengers are asked to use the Amtrak app or other means to check train status while waiting in a personal vehicle.

Çhrisman said the automated phone number is 1-800-USARAIL (1-800-872-7245).

The southbound Amtrak is scheduled for 11:42 p.m. and northbound is at 2:44 a.m.

The passenger loading platform is accessed through the one of the walk-in gates immediately north of the Historic Depot Building.

Amtrak’s press release stated, “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
