Charles Sanford (Sandy) Payne, 78, was born Nov. 22, 1941 in Elmer, Okla.,, to Gladys Walter and Corneilous Barton Payne.
He passed at home in Poplar Bluff, Mo. July 27, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Carl Barton Payne and wife Shirley Payne; and one sister Elva Mae Payne.
He is survived by five children: Johnny Barton Payne, Charles Brett Payne (Bret)/Shonta Payne , Tina La Rae Payne/Billy, all of Melrose N.M.; Teri Le Ann (Payne) Gallegos, Huntington Beach, Calif.; William Sanford Payne, Poplar Bluff ; Grandchildren: Malakai Payne, Poplar Bluff, Joshua Payne, Oklahoma City; Ryan/Kyleigh Payne, Moriarty, N.M.; Jessica/Macharia Mares Melrose, N.M.; Bretlee Payne/Christina Castillo, Long Beach, Calif.; Dusty Payne, Levi Payne, Heather (Payne)/Dustin Rush, all of Melrose, N.M., BJ /Adriene Payne, Lubbock, Texas; Harmony Chavez, Westminister, Calif., Shaina Chavez, Newport Beach, Calif., Khristina/William Blesener and Ryan Gallegos, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Great-grandchildren: Kiarah Chavez-Gallegos, Olivia Blesener, Willow Blesener, Atlas Chavez-Jones, Malakai Ray Chavez; Railee Payne, Waylon Payne, Estrella Payne, Emilio Payne, Elleigh Payne, Hannah Payne; Hayley Payne. Marilyn Payne, Kyrra Payne, Dixie Payne; Shelby Payne, Blaine Andrew Payne.
Charles worked as a carpenter in California. After moving to Missouri, he worked at Mid Continent Nail, Nursing Home Maintenance, then was self employed with his brother-in -law service and remodeling. His hobbies included, hunting, bowling, coaching ball with his boys, Y Indian Guides; playing bingo, and spending time with his beloved Paco.
A private memorial will be planned at a later date.
