City firefighters responded at 10:32 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, to an alarm at the Hillcrest Apartments, 445 N. Second St. According to the report, firefighters found smoke in a third-floor hallway. There was no fire, but someone had left a pot on the stove in one of the apartments...

City firefighters responded at 10:32 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, to an alarm at the Hillcrest Apartments, 445 N. Second St.

According to the report, firefighters found smoke in a third-floor hallway. There was no fire, but someone had left a pot on the stove in one of the apartments.

Firefighters used a positive-pressure-ventilation fan to clear the smoke.

City firefighters responded at 6:43 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, to a report of an unauthorized burn at the 1929 Glendale Road residence, occupied by Matt Allen and owned by Michelle Hobbs.

According to the report, Allen was burning a mattress in the back yard, and he used a garden hose to put out the fire.

City firefighters responded at 4:28 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, to a report of a structure fire in the 500 block of South C Street.

According to the report, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a two-story, wood frame house at 522 S. C St., owned by Angela Kearbey.

Firefighters set up a positive-pressure-ventilation fan and used 50 gallons of water to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Poplar Bluff Police Department.
