Jean Sutton

CAPE GIRARDEAU — Doris “Jean” Parker Sutton passed away Friday, July 3, 2020, at the age of 84 following a long illness of Parkinson’s disease.

Jean was born March 27, 1936, to Verbal Ellen Davidson Parker and Alvie Leo Parker. “Jeanie” Parker graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1953. She was married to William Melvin Sutton on Jan. 2, 1980.

She was a loving mother and “Granny.” While in good health, her home was a gathering place for holidays and celebrations where all were welcome. She was a lifelong follower of Christ, a faithful member of La Croix Church in Cape. Jean was an artist in every aspect of her life creating delicious meals, oil paintings, designing stained glass pieces, sewing and designing beautiful clothing, styling hair, interior design, and growing beautiful plants. Jean was also extremely creative in the art of nursing. She was a lover of all God’s creatures, especially dogs and birds. She loved the competitive spirit of playing cards and games.

Jean is survived by four children, Ginger Lea Anderson (John), Judy Lynn McClard (Tim), William James Sutton, and Thomas Michael Sutton, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her brother William Thomas Parker (Jeanne), her sister Lillian Violet Johnson (Daryl), and two sisters who died as children before she was born.

Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. Inurnment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Puxico.
