It will cost just under $31,000 to replace the 42-year-old roof at Fire Station 1 at 200 S. Broadway.
Poplar Bluff City Council members approved a low bid Monday from Meinerhagen Roofing and Sheeting of Farmington.
Payment for Fire Station 1 roof will come from the city’s capital fund, according to city manager Mark Massingham.
Information on when the work will start and how long it will take was not available Monday. More information on the timeline is expected after the bid winner is notified, according to officials.
The city received five bids, with two failing to meet project specifications, officials said at a previous meeting.
A high bid was received from Summit Roofing and Construction of Poplar Bluff at $34,617 and a low bid from Meinerhagen for $30,775.
The roof began leaking this past spring, according fire chief Ralph Stucker, who had recommended accepting the low bid. The item was not budgeted for this year, which is why it was brought to the council for approval.
Bids were also received from Jonesboro Roofing of Jonesboro, Riverside Roofing of Cape Girardeau and Reeves Roofing of Clarkton. Bid specifications were not met by Reeves and Summit, according to city officials.
Fire department staff are also watching the 48-year-old roof at Fire Station 3 for possible replacement.
