QULIN — An autopsy will be performed Wednesday on a Qulin man whose body was found in a burning trailer early Monday morning.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore reported to the scene after Kenneth Furr, 75, was located at the trailer.

Dr. Russell Deidiker of Farmington will perform the autopsy.

The Qulin Fire Department received a call of a fire at 1:10 a.m. Monday on First Street in Qulin, Assistant Chief Christopher Wright said.

“When we arrived, there were flames out of the windows,” he said. “It was fully involved when we arrived there.”

Firefighters had the fire under control within 15-20 minutes, Wright reported. They used a city fire hydrant to put out the flames.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Furr is the second fire-related fatality for the Qulin fire district so far this year.

The first was Tammie Boswell, 51, of Qulin, who died in early March after a fire in her home on Highway 53.

“For our district to have a fatal fire, a fire that somebody passed away in, ... two this year, and this is the first time since the ‘80s,” Wright said.

He recommended everybody check their smoke detectors, especially those who are elderly or disabled.

“Make sure the elderly and disabled have working smoke detectors,” he said. “Being elderly or disabled, it takes a while for you to get out of the house.

“I can’t say there was or wasn’t smoke detectors in there, but I know that it helps.”
