A 44-year-old Poplar Bluff man was flown to an area hospital for treatment following a one-vehicle crash at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, on Shelby Road near Raider Way.

According to the report, Jason Jewel Tippen of the 2600 block of Russell Road was operating a 1997 Chevrolet pickup northbound on Shelby Road approaching the Raider Way intersection.

Tippen’s truck reportedly ran off the right side of the road, and he allegedly lost control of his truck.

Tippen reportedly overcorrected twice before his truck struck the edge of the sidewalk/embankment.

Tippen’s truck then went airborne, causing it to flip multiple times.

Tippen, who police say was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected halfway through his truck’s flipping.

The investigating officer noted a “strong odor of alcohol” coming from Tippen; however, no field-sobriety tests could be done due to his injuries.

Tippen was flown to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
