A traffic stop on Relief Street Monday afternoon resulted in two arrests and the seizure of suspected drugs, drug paraphernalia and firearms.
Shortly after noon, Poplar Bluff Police Lt. Joe Ward and Patrolman Zachary Tubb stopped a 2001 Ford pickup driven by Alexa Ramos, Capt. David Sutton said in a press release.
A passenger, Kendis Scroggins, allegedly fled the traffic stop on foot, but was taken into custody by Detective Jason Morgan a short distance from the scene, Sutton said.
Ramos was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
An inventory of the vehicle, Sutton said, revealed suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia, a shotgun, a rifle, and ammunition.
In addition to the warrant, Ramos, 27, of the 600 block of Kinzer Street was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Scroggins, 62, of Poplar Bluff was arrested on Butler County warrants for failure to register as a sex offender and probation violation and on suspicion of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sutton said Scroggins is listed on the Missouri State Highway Patrol Sex Offender Registry as a “non-compliant offender” (tier lever 3).
Both Ramos and Scroggins were lodged in the Butler County jail pending formal charges in Butler County and possible referral for federal charges.
Chief of Police Danny Whiteley would like to commend the officers and detectives involved in the arrests and thanked them for “their unwavering commitment to protecting this community. “
