Kyle W. Baumgart-Freeze, 23, of Van Buren was arrested at 9:03 P.m. Friday, May 29, in Carter County on suspicion of DWI, speeding and no seat belt. He was booked at the Carter County Sheriff’s Department and later released.

Poplar Bluff Fire Department

City firefighters responded to a report of a roadside fire at 5:45 p.m. Friday, May 29, along Highway 67 South. Upon their arrival, they found two passersby had put out most of the fire. Firefighters used 15 gallons of water to extinguish the remaining fire.

City firefighters were dispatched at 4:21 p.m. Friday, May 29, to a call about a smoke detector problem at 2303 Eugene Blvd. Firefighters replaced the battery and attempted to make contact with the building’s maintenance crew.
