The Butler County University of Missouri Extension Office is offering weekly activity kits for local youths, available for pick up at the Poplar Bluff Parks and recreation Department.
This week’s kits include materials and instructions for creating three variations of Mother’s Day jars.
The first jar doubles as a plant container. Instructions are:
• Paint the jars with chalk paint. Let completely dry. Cover with two coats. You can paint the lids/rings, too! CRAFT TIP: chalk paint is great for painting on metal, glass, porcelain – no priming needed!
• Fill the jar three-fourths full with potting soil. Plant your favorite flower.
•Attach the tag with ribbon or string. Write your favorite saying for Mother’s Day.
The second jar includes a cutout for a photograph. Instructions are:
• Cut out a square from the contact paper a little smaller than the picture. Place the square on the outside of the jar.
• Paint the jars with chalk paint. Let completely dry. Cover with two coats. You can paint the lids/rings, too! CRAFT TIP: chalk paint is great for painting on metal, glass, porcelain – no priming needed!
• Remove the square from the jar.
• Place your favorite picture inside the jar. Attach with tape on the inside.
Decorate with flowers, ribbon, and your favorite Mother’s Day tag.
The third jar is a candle holder. Instructions include:
• Cut out a heart from the contact paper. Place the heart on the jar.
• Paint the jar with chalk paint. Let completely dry. Cover with two coats. You can paint the lids/rings, too! CRAFT TIP: chalk paint is great for painting on metal, glass, porcelain – no priming needed!
• Remove the heart from the jar.
• Place battery candle inside the jar. Decorate with ribbon or jute.
• Attach the Mother’s Day saying on the jar with your favorite ribbon
