SIKESTON — The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating an officer-involved shooting, which occurred early Wednesday morning in Sikeston and left one dead.
At 1:46 a.m., the Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to 233 Dorothy St. after a call regarding a person being shot, patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott said in a news release.
At 2:35 a.m., while officers were processing the scene and obtaining information, Parrott said, the suspect approached the residence.
“Preliminary information revealed that officers made contact with the suspect, and the situation escalated when the suspect refused to follow verbal commands,” Parrott said. “A use of force was utilized when officers discharged their weapons, and the subject sustained gunshot wounds.”
The subject, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Scott County coroner.
