Authorities report a Poplar Bluff man underwent surgery Tuesday morning after he allegedly was “slashed” repeatedly by his boyfriend during a domestic dispute.
“Butler County deputies responded to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in reference to a stabbing” at about 3:50 a.m., explained Chief Deputy Wes Popp.
Jeffery Logan, 39, had entered the hospital with several lacerations, including a cut along his stomach, which was estimated to be 6 to 7 inches in length and deep, Popp said.
“Deputies spoke to him; he said him and his boyfriend got into an argument, a domestic argument, at their residence, located in the 2600 block of County Road 423,” Popp said.
The argument, Popp said, reportedly was over Logan’s boyfriend, Joseph Adams, 39, not having a job.
“Adams grabbed a paring knife and began cutting/slashing on Logan,” Popp said.
Logan, he said, left he residence, got in his truck and drove himself to the hospital.
Popp said Logan underwent surgery and is expected to recover.
“They said he will survive, but it’s bad,” Popp said. “It’s not like he’ll get stitches and get right out of the hospital.”
Although Logan’s injuries are not life threatening, they are “very serious,” said Popp.
Deputies responded to the home, where they arrested Adams at about 6 a.m. on suspicion of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of weapon, said Popp.
“(Adams) was taken to the ER; he cut himself once while he was slashing up his boyfriend,” said Popp.
After receiving stitches on his arm, Popp said, Adams was booked at the Butler County jail.
“(Adams) just said it was self defense, but he had no defensive wounds on him,” Popp said. “The victim had all the defensive wounds.”
