Herschel J. Hobbs, 95, of Naylor died Thursday, March 5, 2020, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
He was a cotton ginner. He served as mayor of Naylor in 1974. His hobbies were gardening and working in the yard. He was a member of the Naylor Pentecostal Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Medal, Infantryman Badge, World War Victory medal, Liberation Ribbon and good conduct medal.
He was a member of the American Legion Post # 643 in Naylor.
Mr. Hobbs was born May 5, 1924, in Rector, Ark. He married Helen Nipper of Success, Ark., Dec. 12, 1972. She survives.
Also surviving are children: Larry Hobbs and wife, Carol, of Sandy Run, S.C. Garry Hobbs and wife, Patty, of Poplar Bluff, Susie Spargo and husband, Rick, of Doniphan, Brenda Wells of Poplar Bluff, Nancy Yergler and husband, Tom, Rantoul, Ill.; one sister, Phyllis Sue Miller of Fenton, Mo.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Herschel Hobbs and one brother, Jerry Hobbs.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Monday, March 9 at Fowler & Son Funeral Home in Neelyville followed at noon by the funeral. Donnie Fowler officiating. Burial with full military honors be in Woodland Heights in Rector, Ark.
