The Broseley Senior Center will be rocking and rolling Friday night to the music of Johnathan Len’s Jukebox Memories in a Tribute to the 1950s and 1960s.
A steak dinner beginning at 6 p.m. will precede the Paducah, Kentucky, native’s show, which kicks off at 7 p.m.
Len’s show will follow a steak dinner. The dinner and concert are one of several fundraising events held annually at the senior center.
“Fundraisers are essential since we are a non-profit organization,” said Carol Brotherton, nutrition center director. “We rely on fundraisers to get us through the year financially. We have various fundraisers three to four times a year. When you consider the amount of food you get with a homemade dessert and drink included, the meal’s price is very reasonable.”
Tickets to both the show and steak dinner are $15, but if you only want to see the show, tickets will be $10.
Brotherton said, “We are a ‘senior nutrition center.’ Most of our customers are seniors, although we do welcome non-seniors. Since we are out in the country, this is a good and close place for seniors in this area to get a hot meal and fellowship with others that may not be able to travel to the locals towns/cities. That being said, the Broseley Senior Center has been good for our community. We have a few paid staff but also have several volunteers. Our volunteers make it possible for us to do what we do and give back to our community.”
An average 120-130 breakfasts and 420-430 lunches are served per week.
Breakfast is served 6-9 a.m. Monday-Friday, with lunch from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Friday’s menu, which is always fish, and hours are 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Patrons may dine in or call ahead for carry-out meals.
Bingo is held from 9-11 a.m. Monday and Wednesday and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday.
“Three, four times a month we have blood pressure, sugar level and oxygen checked by various organizations,” Brotherton said. “The center is also available for rent for most every occasion, such as birthday parties, wedding receptions, baby/wedding showers, family/class reunions etc.”
Brotherton believes, “the successfulness of the Broseley Senior Center is due to the commitment of the staff, board members, volunteers and the support of our community.”
Len has been in the music business for 17 years performing throughout most of the United States. The past seven years he has worked with and sang backup for country singer Ronnie McDowell. Len’s first two singles were written by McDowell.
“The night of the concert, Johnathan will be performing a new love song he wrote and recorded,” Brotherton said. “This song will also be released online March 6.”
There are a limited number of seats available, so Brotherton recommends anyone planning to attend to purchase tickets ahead of time. For more information, contact Brotherton at 573-328-1126
