City firefighters responded at 6:36 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, to a report of a structure fire at the 609 Lindsay St. residence occupied by James Bean and owned by Jim Hobbs.
According to the report, Bean told firefighters there had been a small fire in the bathroom, and he had put it out.
Firefighters found light smoke in the residence and evidence of a small fire in the corner of the bathroom next to a cabinet.
The fire reportedly damaged the cabinet and floor, but had not extended into the structure itself.
Firefighters used a thermal-imaging camera to check for any fire extension. None was found.
A positive-pressure ventilation fan was set up to remove the smoke from the home.
Firefighters checked the damaged area and determined the fire started from discarded smoking materials falling into clothing on the bathroom floor.
