Poplar Bluff and Butler County will be testing the outdoor warning sirens on Saturday and Tuesday, according to Butler County Emergency Management Director Robbie Myers.
Saturday’s testing will occur between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“On Feb. 29, Poplar Bluff Severe Weather Response Team members and other community volunteer partners will be assisting in testing sirens while we also conduct some onsite maintenance at each siren. The sirens will be tested separately during those three hours,” said Myers.
The volunteers are conducting this “boots on the ground” test as part of the Day of Service and Prayer.
“We appreciate the community’s patience during this process, but we want to take these extra actions to ensure our ability to warn citizens during actual tornado warnings,” he said.
On Tuesday, March 3, the sirens will be activated at 10 a.m. as part of Missouri’s Statewide Tornado Drill.
NOAA Weather Radios will also send alerts out at that time.
In case of severe weather on Tuesday, the drill will be moved to Thursday, March 5 at 10 a.m.
