City firefighters responded at 1:17 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, to a report of a kitchen fire at the 1311 N. 11th St. residence owned by Lisa Spencer.
According to the report, firefighters found smoke inside the residence, but no fire. A pot of grease reportedly had been left on the stove, which caused the smoke alarm to sound.
Spencer reportedly turned off the stove, and put the pot in the sink.
The fire damaged an over-the-range microwave, which firefighters unplugged, and the cabinets over the stove.
There also was smoke damage on the ceilings in the home.
Firefighters set up a positive-pressure ventilation fan to remove smoke from the residence.

City firefighters responded at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, to a motor-vehicle crash in front of Wendy’s, 1200 N. Westwood Blvd.
According the report, firefighters were cancelled en route.

City firefighters responded at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, to a report of a fire on the 11th floor at 506 Hazel St.
According to the report, firefighters searched all the apartments on that floor, but nothing was found.
Firefighters subsequently went to Bobby Lawrence’s 11th floor apartment at 508 Hazel St. and found a small portion of a couch had been burned at the floor level.
Lawrence reported he had put out the fire prior to the arrival of the fire department, and he believed a ember from his pipe had caught the couch on fire.
Firefighters opened a window to ventilate the apartment.
