DEXTER — Seventeen people were arrested and 22 citations were issued during a recent narcotics enforcement operation held by the Dexter Police Department.

Between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, officers with the police department, SEMO Drug Task Force, Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a targeted narcotic enforcement sweep in Dexter, according to a news release from Capt. Joshua Benton.

The officers conducted 95 traffic stops and 11 residence checks, targeting narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

The arrests were for such offenses as DWI, DWI (drugs), possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and traffic offenses and warrants from Dexter, Cape Girardeau County, St. Charles County and Probation and Parole.

“This operation was conducted as a result of months of narcotics investigations and tips from the public,” said Benton, who thanks the agencies that assisted in the enforcement operation and the public who provided information, which led to the arrests of some of the individuals.
