Saint Francis Healthcare will offer free heart screenings every Wednesday in February for American Heart Month.

The free heart and health screenings include a total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cardiac risk ratio, glucose and blood pressure check. The screenings require a 10- to 12-hour fast beforehand. During the fast, drink plenty of water and continue taking prescription medications (with water only).

“I believe it is important to check your cholesterol and fasting glucose to see if you are at risk for diabetes, heart disease and strokes,” said Duc Nguyen, DO with Cape Cardiology Group. “More importantly, it allows you to take active measures to reduce your chance of suffering a stroke or heart attack AND live a healthy life.”

The screenings are located at the Saint Francis Medical Center Health and Wellness Conference Center at 150 S. Mount Auburn Road (Entrance 8) from 7-10 a.m. Feb. 19. Screenings will also be held at Saint Francis Health Center – Poplar Bluff located at 225 Physicians Park Drive Suite 400, first floor from 8-11 a.m. Feb. 12, and Ferguson Medical Group – Sikeston at 1012 North Main Street will host screenings from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Feb. 26.
