A traffic stop early Monday morning in Carter County resulted in the seizure of suspected crystal methamphetamine and other contraband and the arrest of a Poplar Bluff woman.
At about 1:30 a.m., Carter County Deputy Kristopher Wilkins stopped a vehicle being driven by Amber D. Sappington for a traffic violation on Highway K, off of Highway 21 South, explained Carter County Sheriff Rick Stephens.
Wilkins, the sheriff said, saw “some (drug) paraphernalia in the vehicle in plain view and asked for consent” to search Sappington’s vehicle.
Stephens said Sappington denied consent, and Wilkins deployed his canine, Lobo, to conduct a “free-air sniff.”
Lobo, Stephens said, alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, giving, Wilkins probable cause to search Sappington’s vehicle.
Found inside Sappington’s vehicle, according to Stephens, were about 11.5 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine; about 60 grams of liquid, which tested for meth; “THC (marijuana) dab” and drug paraphernalia.
The liquid was found in the “big base” of what Stephens described as a “large smoking pipe.”
A handgun also was found in the vehicle, the sheriff said.
Sappington, 33, was arrested at 1:42 a.m. on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
She was placed on a 24-hour hold and transferred to the Shannon County Jail.
