Betty Hood

Betty Louise Hood, 84, daughter of the late Elbert and Lena (Ray) Asher was born Sept. 22, 1935 in Charter Oak, Mo., and departed this life on Jan. 15, 2020 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Betty had resided in Ellsinore since 1978 and was formerly of Saint Louis. She was of the Baptist faith and attended the Ellsinore General Baptist Church in Ellsinore, Mo. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, four wheeling, gardening, shopping and playing cards with her best friend Lela May and her sisters. Betty was kind hearted, generous and strong willed.

On July 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to RM Hood in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1998.

She is survived by one son, Mike Hood of Saint Louis, Mo.; daughter, Brenda McGehee of Ellsinore, Mo., and daughter-in-law, Dawn Hood of Ellsinore, Mo.; one brother Elbert Asher of Saint Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Faye McClain of Saint Louis, Mo., and Veda Powell of Greentown, Ind.; five grandchildren, James Hood and wife, Tanya, Lauren Ladyman, Dawson, Emma and Taylor McGehee; one great-grandchild, James Hood, Jr.; and many relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by one son, Larry Hood; one grandchild, Jason Hood; three brothers, Houston Asher, Reginald Asher and Robert Asher; and one sister, Rowena Asher.

A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore, Mo. with the funeral services being held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020 in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Joplin-New Hope Cemetery in Ellsinore, Mo.
