City firefighters responded at 9:01 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, to a report of a smoke odor inside the 1018 Davis St. residence occupied by Mathew Allen and owned by Linda Halbort. City firefighters responded at 9:01 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, to a report of a smoke odor inside the 1018 Davis St. residence occupied by Mathew Allen and owned by Linda Halbort.

According to the report, firefighters detected a burning odor upon their arrival and used the department’s thermal-imaging camera to check the heating/ventilation/air conditioning unit. The TIC detected temperature readings of about 380 degrees in the top of the unit, which was overheating.

The electric to the unit was turned off at the breaker box.

Firefighters found glowing, hot metal in the upper portion of the unit.

Allen called Halbort, and after speaking with firefighters, she contacted a service technician.

Firefighters continued to monitor temperatures in the unit and found they were slightly decreasing.

Once the temperature had fallen to about 200 degrees, there reportedly no longer was a fire or extension found.

Firefighters remained on the scene until the service tech arrived.

City firefighters responded at 10:26 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, to a report of a fire at Sportsman’s Park, 1301 Black River Industrial Park Road.

According to the report, firefighters contacted a man who told them he had been burning along the river bank, but had put the fire out before their arrival.

Firefighters found a small burnt debris pile along the river bank, which was no longer burning or smoking.
