Butler County authorities announced, pending DNA confirmation, they believe the identity of the female body found Thursday, Dec. 26, is that of Brittney Grammer, 33, of Poplar Bluff and they are treating her death as a homicide.

Coroner Andy Moore said, “the investigation leads us to believe the identity is that of Brittney Grammer.”

Through the leads generated by the numerous calls and messages received from the media release Sunday, Moore said, “we believe we have been able to identify the body of the missing white female that was found in Butler County.”

An autopsy was performed by Dr. Russell Deidiker and Moore said, “I was able to confirm some of those findings with medical records this morning. I met with her family today and DNA samples were taken. They will be sent to a lab for comparison to make positive identification.

“I’d like to personally thank the community’s help in identifying her and I graciously ask for you to respect the families privacy at this time,” Moore said.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs said, “authorities are continuing to investigate how the remains got to a rural portion of eastern Butler County and who is responsible.”

Dobbs said the victim had been missing approximately a week.
